Hi Guys,

I don't believe this is versaSRS HelpDesk problem, but more of a MS SQL Express issue, but hope you can assist.

After installing versaSRS, with no errors or issues, when trying to launch http://localhost/versasrs, I get a connection error that ends with;

"(provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)"

This error is also shown in the versaSRS-SMC when connecting to the database (so I know its a database issue as the versaSRS HelpDesk application is not even involved at this point Drool )

BTW - the database is SQL Express 2005 (and also does same wth 2008).

Cheers

Hi,

When you install SQL Server 2005, sometimes remote connection are not allowed by default.

To correct this, please launch SQL Server Configuration Manager. Select tree "SQL Serve 2005 Network Configuration -> Protocols for MSSQLSERVER" and enable "Shared Memory", "Named Pipes" and "TCP/IP".

Under "SQL Native Client Configuration -> Client Protocols", enable which are available.

Hope this solves your problem

Cheers,

Philip

Hi

By default, the versaSRS connection string is configured to connect to "localhost" as your default database server.

If you installed SQL Express 2005 or 2008 with default configuration, connecting to localhost will NOT work and will get the similar error as above.

To correct this, please make sure you connect to the database server in the following format; [SERVER_NAME]\SQLExpress. Where [SERVER_NAME] should be replaced with your actual server / pc name.

Cheers

Chean
